Don LaFontaine, 1940-2008

The undisputed master of the movie trailer voiceover, Don LaFontaine, died today at a hospital in Los Angeles.  In recent years, Don became a celebrity in his own right, and was far more memorable than some of the films he recorded trailers for.  In the couple of interviews I saw with him he really seemed amused that he could do what he did and make money at it, even having a little fun at his own expense on a Geico commercial.

Movie trailers will never be the same because “now, we live in a world” without Don LaFontaine.  Rest in peace, Don.
