The Envelope, Please

Part of me wishes I followed movies more closely so that I could have been excited, or at least interested, in last Sunday’s Academy Awards. Even so, I have decided I would really like to go see “Crazy Heart” with Jeff Bridges. Maybe this weekend; I’m feeling like I could use a little escape these days.

The more important, eagerly anticipated envelopes – at least in our household – are those with admissions decisions for our middle daughter, now counting down the days until high school graduation. No definite word yet, but a couple of encouraging letters. One letter invited our daughter to apply to the college’s honors program; another said the first round of application review was promising and that she would be recommended to the admissions committee. But still no letters saying one way or the other for sure.

Should be any day now. And the winner is….

  1. Goucher and Lake Forest have sent letters of acceptance now, Macalester is a maybe (alternate, deferred, wait-listed, etc.). Still to be heard from are Wheaton (MA), Connecticut, Kenyon, Muhlenberg, and Vassar.

  2. So the list of acceptances is complete; Wheaton (MA), Connecticut, Muhlenberg, Goucher, and Lake Forest. Macalester, Kenyon, and Vassar were all wait-list notifications, to which our daughter promptly sent back the “thanks but no thanks” reply card. Soon we will visit Muhlenberg and Goucher, then take another look at Wheaton and Connecticut. Lake Forest may just be a little too much for us to reach, but we’ll see.
